Advancing Agriculture in the Volta Region

Advancing Agriculture in the Volta Region

I had the privilege of delivering the welcome address at a landmark event that brought together key stakeholders in agriculture from Ghana and the United States. This special engagement welcomed a high-powered delegation of U.S. farmers, including:

  • Mr. Jay Reiners – Secretary/Treasurer of the US Grains Council Board & Former Chairman of the Nebraska Grains Council
  • Brandon Hunnicutt – Former Chair of the Nebraska Corn Board and a member of the National Corn Growers Association Board – US

Their presence signified a historic moment of collaboration aimed at enhancing agricultural productivity, fostering partnerships, and unlocking new opportunities for Ghana, particularly the Volta Region.

Agriculture: The Key to Economic Growth

In my address, I shared my deep conviction that agriculture holds the power to secure the comfort and success of our people. Africa, Ghana, and specifically the Volta Region, have immense potential to lead in food security, agribusiness, and economic transformation. The rich, fertile lands, vast water bodies, and growing interest in commercial farming make our region a prime location for large-scale agricultural success.

However, realizing this potential requires strategic investments, technology adoption, and knowledge transfer—which is why today’s engagement is so vital. We stand at the cusp of a new era in agribusiness, where local farmers, industry experts, and international partners can work together to create sustainable agricultural value chains.

A Powerful Vision for the Volta Region

A highlight of the event was the powerful speech by Daniel Kodjo Agboka Dzegede, Founder & President of the Volta Africa American Chamber (VAAC). He outlined his bold vision for the Volta Region, emphasizing the critical role of agriculture in regional and national development. Under his leadership, the VAAC and the Volta Development Forum have prioritized agriculture as a key pillar, calling on farmers to unite, collaborate, and leverage new opportunities to scale up production.

Mr. Agboka Dzegede passionately pledged his support to farmers, reaffirming that VAAC will continue to create platforms that connect local agricultural stakeholders with global markets, investors, and experts. He envisions the Volta Region as the leading supplier of corn and grains in Ghana, a goal that, when achieved, will significantly boost Ghana’s economy.

The Role of VAAC in Advancing Agriculture

The Volta Africa American Chamber (VAAC) is dedicated to bridging the gap between local businesses and international partners, fostering entrepreneurship development, cultural exchange, and business growth. Agriculture aligns perfectly with our mission, vision, and objectives, and this engagement is a step forward in securing lasting partnerships that will benefit farmers, agribusiness investors, and the entire Volta Region.

This event was more than a discussion—it was a call to action. A call for collaboration, investment, and innovation in agriculture. As we move forward, VAAC remains committed to ensuring that our farmers receive the support, resources, and knowledge they need to thrive, not just for today, but for generations to come.

The future of Ghana’s agriculture is bright, and the Volta Region is ready to lead the way. Let’s make it happen—together!
