Life is a journey of growth, and my educational path has taught me a vital lesson: success is not about where you start but how you adapt and learn along the way.
Starting in Senior High School with a focus on Agricultural Science, I thought my path was set. However, a growing passion for technology steered me in a new direction. Transitioning into Electrical Engineering at Ghana’s premier technical university, Ho Technical University, was both exciting and daunting. Coming from a non-technical background, I struggled immensely with complex concepts in electronics and electrical systems. At times, it felt impossible—but I persevered. With determination and strategic effort, I achieved a Second Class Upper, even earning a few First Classes along the way.
The turning point in my journey came when I pursued a degree in Computer Science. With a foundation in problem-solving and a clearer understanding of how to learn effectively, I successfully completed this next phase of my education.
Key Lessons for Young Learners:
- Embrace the Challenge: Moving from Agriculture to Engineering to Computer Science was not a linear or easy path. Challenges are opportunities in disguise—face them head-on.
- Learn How to Learn: The greatest skill I acquired wasn’t technical—it was the ability to learn effectively. Once you master how to break down complex ideas and adapt your approach, you can excel in any field.
- Growth is a Journey, Not a Destination: Your interests may evolve, and that’s okay. Be open to exploring new fields and pivoting when necessary.
- Consistency Pays Off: Even when the odds feel overwhelming, persistence and a step-by-step approach can lead to significant achievements.
- Pass it Forward: Today, I am proud to have impacted the lives of hundreds of young people through education and mentorship, helping them unlock their potential and embrace the art of learning.
To all young people: pause for a moment and reflect not just on what you’re learning but how you’re learning. Once you master the skill of learning, the possibilities are endless.
Let this be your reminder: where you start doesn’t determine where you’ll end up. The ability to learn will take you places you never imagined.
